On 29-30 September 2011, the 13^th international theoretical and practical conference “Civil Law as Science: History, Theory and Practice Problems” took place in Almaty within the framework of the annual civil law readings. The conference was organized by the KazUHL Research Institute of Private Law, German Institute for International Cooperation (GIZ), Zanger law firm and Kazakhstani International Arbitrage with the information assistance of the YurInfo Company LLP and the Russian Law: Education, Practice and Science magazine.

The conference brought together more than 140 participants including the leading civil law scholars, representatives of state bodies and courts, practicing lawyers and teachers from Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.

 The welcoming speeches were made by Mr. M.K. Suleimenov, the Director the KazUHL Research Institute of Private Law, the KIA Chairperson, Academician of the NAS of RoK, Doctor of Laws, Professor; Dr. Hirbod Aminlari, the Program Director of the German Institute for International Cooperation’s (GIZ) Project “Support of the Legal and Judicial Reforms in the Central Asian Countries”; Mr. N.I. Mamontov – the Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The research officer of the Research Institute of Private Law, the Managing Director of Zanger law firm, Candidate of Laws, Mr. E.B. Zhussupov presented the specially published for the conference collection of works in 9 volumes of the Academician M.K. Suleimenov “Private Law: History and the Present”, Liber аmicorum collection in the honor of the Academician M.K. Suleimenov “Topical Problems of Private Law”, and the monography of M.K. Suleimenov “The Law as a System”.

Conclusions and recommendations of the conference will promote the further development of the civil legislation in large as well as the development of the science of the civil law and the practice of its application, what in its turn should lead to the more efficient protection of private law interests.
